Psychoeducational Evaluation
When a child or adolescent is struggling academically, the difficulty is not always simply a matter of effort or motivation. Challenges with attention, learning, memory, processing speed, executive functioning, emotional functioning, or other underlying factors can all affect how a student performs in school.
At A Growth Mentality Psychological Services, Inc., psychoeducational evaluations are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of a student’s learning profile, academic strengths, areas of difficulty, and the factors that may be interfering with school performance.
Understanding How Your Child Learns
A psychoeducational evaluation may be helpful when there are concerns related to:
Reading, writing, or mathematics difficulties
Dyslexia or other specific learning disorders
ADHD or attention-related concerns
Executive functioning challenges
Slow processing speed
Memory or working-memory concerns
Academic underachievement
Giftedness or advanced learning needs
School-related anxiety or emotional concerns
Difficulty completing assignments or keeping up with classroom demands
Inconsistent academic performance
Questions regarding the need for accommodations or additional school support
The evaluation process is individualized and may include measures of cognitive functioning, academic achievement, attention, executive functioning, memory, behavioral and emotional functioning, and other areas relevant to the referral question.
All testing services utilize standardized, norm-referenced, empirically supported, valid, and reliable assessment measures selected based on the student’s age, history, presenting concerns, and educational needs.
The goal is not simply to identify a diagnosis. A comprehensive psychoeducational evaluation should help explain how the student learns, where difficulties are occurring, what strengths can be built upon, and what supports may help the student succeed academically.
What may be included?
Depending on the referral question, the evaluation may include:
Clinical and developmental interview
Review of educational records
Cognitive assessment
Academic achievement testing
Attention and executive-function measures
Memory and processing measures
Behavioral and emotional questionnaires
Parent and teacher rating scales
Review of prior interventions or accommodations
Diagnostic formulation when applicable
Individualized academic and behavioral recommendations
Comprehensive written report
Feedback session to review results and recommendations
Findings may be useful when families are discussing IEP eligibility, Section 504 accommodations, academic interventions, testing accommodations, or other school-based supports. Final eligibility decisions are made by the student’s school team.
Psychoeducational Evaluation Fee Range: $3,000–$4,500
The final fee depends on the complexity of the referral question, amount of testing required, records reviewed, and whether additional collateral information is needed. Your specific evaluation plan and fee will be discussed before testing begins.
Psychoeducational testing is primarily completed in person at our Doral location, with portions of the evaluation process available virtually when clinically appropriate. Select services are available in English and Spanish.
AGM Psych is a self-pay/private-pay practice. Detailed statements or superbills are available upon request for families who wish to pursue possible out-of-network reimbursement.
